CF4 – Retirement planning

What does the unit cover?
This unit develops the individual’s knowledge and understanding of retirement planning issues including assessment of pensions needs and satisfying these needs accounting for other factors such as legislation and state benefits. It also helps with developing the individual’s understanding of the pension products available.

The main syllabus elements are:

Candidates should be able to understand the:

  • Effect that retirement planning has on clients before, at and after retirement
  • Impact that taxation and legislation have on retirement planning
  • Different types of individual, occupational and State pension schemes
  • Main options for drawing benefits at retirement
  • Use of alternative investments in retirement planning
  • Effect of divorce on retirement planning

How is it examined?
1 hour, 50 question multiple-choice exam. Pass mark is around 70%
